could any one tell me why one should choose sun solaris operating system for servers
i got a myth that just due to linux is opensourse it's sequrity can be easily break why not sun solaris

Hey Alok,

Yes there is a myth that opensouce software is less secure than proprietary software (Windows, Solaris, etc...). The reasoning is that everybody can see the code in opensource stuff, therefore people can see where the flaws are. Where proprietary software, nobody sees the code... therefore more secure.

However I do not believe this. I think that because everybody can see the code in opensource, the code is written better, less security flaws. Where in proprietary software (Windows, Solaris, etc...) nodody sees the code, so who knows how the code is writen. In Microsofts case, there track record is not very good. Security through obscurity is not more secure!!!

The other plus I see in opensource is that because everybody can see the code. If their is a security flaw, anybody can fix it. Most security flaws in opensouce are fixed in 24 hours. I cannot say the same for propriatry software. Does internet explorer say anything to you!!!
