PLEASE SUPPLY RELEVANT INFORMATION:
Operating System Version: Windows xp professional
Problem Application Name & Version: Firefox and the internet in general
Problem Hardware Make & Model:
Error Messages: connection refused, page cannot be displayed

Well I am having various problems with my computer and the internet...

First, for some reason my xp user name on this computer stopped connecting to the internet...while everyone else's accounts could. I tried everything i could until i finally decided to just make a new user name (i copied all of my files.). I don't have any problems connecting to the internet anymore, but that isn't the only problem.

It was yesterday that i noticed hotmail was down. Then i tried using gmail, and it was down as well. I have asked many people who are and aren't on the same ISP as me and they say that they can view these sites. So now i pretty much have no email access.

And finally, Firefox won't connect at all. I try opening it and it says 'connection refused'. So i am forced to use my IE.

so, can anyone suggest a solution to one of these problems? Do you think i have a virus/trojan?

also, i have disabled my firewall and i have run multiple online and offline virus and spyware scans. Nothing big has come up.

Please download and run the following programs:

AD-AWARE

Install the program and launch it.

First, in the bottom right-hand corner of the main window
click on Check for updates now then click Connect and download
the latest reference files.

Then, in the main window: Click Start and under Select
a scan Mode tick Perform full system scan.

Then, deselect Search for negligible risk entries.

To start the scan, click the Next button.

When the scan is finished mark everything for removal
and get rid of it. (Right-click the window and choose select
all from the drop down menu and then click Next)

Restart your computer.

SPYBOT SEARCH & DESTROY

Open Spybot Search & Destroy (Click Start, Programs,
Spybot S&D (Advanced Mode). Click online, Search for updates,
Download all available updates. Close all Browser windows,
Click ''Check for Problems''. Anything that needs to be fixed
it will show in red and have a green check in the box to the left.
Click ''Fix Selected Problems'', Then restart your computer.

Hijack This

Make sure you unzip hijack this to its own folder
such as C:\Program files as this is where the backups will
be created.Run Hijack this but do NOT fix anything.Click save
log and a log will open in notepad.Copy and paste your log here.

I am moving this to the security and viruses forum

Please download LSP Fix

Then use these instructions to remove the bad DLL:

1. Run LSPFix.
2. Check 'I know what I'm doing'.
3. Select 'googledesktopnetwork1.dll'.
4. Click the right-pointing arrow (moves it to the "remove" page).
5. Click 'Finished'.

Reboot and post one more log

For troubleshooting purposes you may want to remove the Google Desktop Search

I would uninstall it properly without using LSP Fix, but hold on to LSP fix in case you need it
Desktop search isn't on the warning list for removal
