Problem loading windows Stays in DOS
Windows 98 - 2nd Edition

The problem I'm coming across is that the PC won't load windows.
This is what happens - It stays in DOS so i type WIN to get it into windows. It then loads into windows, you see the windows desktop for about 5-6 seconds then it goes back to DOS again. I don't know how to fix the problem has anyone got any ideas? I'd be really grateful.
Thanks Prophet868.

Can you boot OK in Safe Mode?
If so, then have a look in MSCONFIG and see what it has to say about your startup axis...
look here for instructions on how to clean up your startup axis, preventing unnecessary programs loading
(enter any item in the startup list in MSCONFIG into the search box on the page, and click Search)
http://www.sysinfo.org/startuplist.php

for detailed instructions - look here

You may have a virus/spyware hijack

download the Stinger from here and run it to make sure that A-V-disabling
viruses are not present on your PC
http://download.nai.com/products/mcafee-avert/stinger.exe

- update your virus scanner and run a full system scan of all files.

download AdAware from www.lavasoftusa.com, install, update, and run it to
remove spyware, adware,
and other such nasties from your system.
