Please download and run the following programs:

AD-AWARE

Install the program and launch it.

First, in the bottom right-hand corner of the main window
click on Check for updates now then click Connect and download
the latest reference files.

Then, in the main window: Click Start and under Select
a scan Mode tick Perform full system scan.

Then, deselect Search for negligible risk entries.

To start the scan, click the Next button.

When the scan is finished mark everything for removal
and get rid of it. (Right-click the window and choose select
all from the drop down menu and then click Next)

Restart your computer.

SPYBOT SEARCH & DESTROY

Open Spybot Search & Destroy (Click Start, Programs,
Spybot S&D (Advanced Mode). Click online, Search for updates,
Download all available updates. Close all Browser windows,
Click ''Check for Problems''. Anything that needs to be fixed
it will show in red and have a green check in the box to the left.
Click ''Fix Selected Problems'', Then restart your computer.

Your hijack this is outdated. Please download the newest version
From Here

Make sure you unzip hijack this to its own folder such as C:\Program files as this is where the backups will be created.Run Hijack this but do NOT fix anything.Click save log and a log will open in notepad.Copy and paste your log here.

FYI- I just read Robdawg's recent post....the characteristics he describes about his mypoiskovik problem are idendical to mine. We have both taken similar steps to resolve with the probelm but it just recures. Maybe that will help to know when you look at our logs.
Thanks!

First disable system restore. You can enable it once you are clean

Using System Restore Windows XP

Run hijack this and place a check beside the following:

R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Bar = http://mypoiskovik.com/sp.htm
R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Page = http://mypoiskovik.com/index.htm
R0 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Start Page = http://mypoiskovik.com/index.htm
R0 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Search,SearchAssistant = http://mypoiskovik.com/sp.htm
R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\SearchURL,(Default) = http://mypoiskovik.com/index.htm

O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [lhpvvny] c:\windows\hqrluji.exe
O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [xwebrwa] c:\windows\sajapbh.exe
O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [dovmsdh] c:\windows\mettyhm.exe
O4 - Global Startup: 876374.exe

Close all windows except for hijack this and click fix

Boot to safe mode making sure you can see hidden files and folders

How To Boot Into SafeMode

How To Show Hidden Files And Folders

Delete The Following:

c:\windows\hqrluji.exe
c:\windows\sajapbh.exe
C:\windows\ykynwhs.exe
C:\windows\uxnyknp.exe
C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Start Menu\Programs\Startup\876374.exe
c:\windows\mettyhm.exe

Reboot but do not open any browsers yet

Go to start>settings>control panel>internet options
Under the general tab
click>delete cookies>say ok
click>delete files>check delete offline content>say ok twice
Under the programs tab
click>reset web settings

Scan with hijack this and post a new log

I am almost there...I have completed all steps except that I cannot locate the file named 876374.exe in the Doc and Settings\All users\Start Menue\Programs\Startup folder. I did change settings priro to safe mode boot to show all hidden files. I ran a search for this file name in Safe Mode and no files by that name were found? Any suggestions at this point?
Thanks

John,
Good news! I believe I solved the problem of finding the 876374.exe in the Doc and Settings\All users\Start Menue\Programs\Startup folder. I deleted one of two files in that folder which was a Microsoft Office Shortcut. Once I did that, severl of the entries youy identified in HJT scan no longer existed. Also, the Win Min progam which had always been running at shut down time was no longer there whej I shut down and I was able to reboot clean. My browser noe defaults to MSN.com.  I believe the 876374.exe file was disguising itself as a Shortcut file!!!! Nasty bugger!!!! Anyhow, here is the scan after taking all the steps you outline. Am I all clean?? THANKS a TON for your help!!!!
