PLEASE SUPPLY RELEVANT INFORMATION:
Operating System Version: windows XP
Problem Application Name & Version: CD-ROM Drives
Problem Hardware Make & Model:
Error Messages:



hey can anyone help with my CD_ROM problem, basically i had windows 98 and i had both my cd drives working fine labelled as E: and F: drives, but once i updated it from windows 98 to windows XP, my CD drives have disappeared for some reason?Huh?Huh?Huh?, i tried to use device manager to search for it but it didnt work, and it isnt a virus causing the problem,please HEELLPPP!!!!

I strongly feel that a fresh install of XP would have been a better choice. With that said, lets get some information from you.

Your stating you do not see the devices listed in Device Manager?
Have you gone into the BIOS?
Is there any error messeges?
Any other drives missing?

hey ya, yeah both the CD drives are not detected in the device manager, no i havent tried the BIOS yeah not sure how 2 do it though???, and no there are no error messages, just seems like both the drives have simply dissapeared, just the CD- Drives arnt working, hope thats a lil clearer, msg bk thank you K!

Your problem may be as simple as changing the IDE cable. I would try it just to see if its gone bad.
If both the missing drives are on the same channel its a good chance this is the problem.

If need be after this suggestion does not work we will get you into the BIOS.

hey ya, yeah i think the cable is ok because when i put in the windows 98 start up disc in, the two cd drives are detected,it just does not work in XP, the only thing that i can see that works is the floppy drive. just seems like my CD drives are missing help plz Sad

Try this...
Disconnect BOTH Roms(from inside the case)
Reboot...
Shutdown...
Re-connect ONE Rom...
Re-boot...Does XP recognize it?

If not tell us the Make and Model of BOTH Roms.
Also How are the Connected..to what IDE chain?

Did you try reinstalling the software for the drives. I had to do this once and it worked.
