PLEASE SUPPLY RELEVANT INFORMATION:
Operating System Version:WXP1
Problem Application Name & Version:IE^
Problem Hardware Make & Model:
Error Messages:

I cannot get rid of EliteBar. Spysweeper fails, NAV fails, and several attempts at manual removal won't purge the thing either.

I know there is alot of (amazing!)information on the subject in this forum, but I was wondering if someone could look at my log and point me in a specific location.

Thank you.

That's an older version of HJT that you have.
Delete the one you have and Download Hijackthis Version 1.98.2
---Important---Create a permanent folder
EG---- Open MyDocuments----Right click an empty spot and select NEW---Folder----Name the new folder HJT ---this is where you will want to save Hijackthis too, also, backups will be stored there.
Download from here
http://aumha.org/downloads/hijackthis.exe

Do a SCAN----Scan will change to SAVE LOG----copy and paste the WHOLE contents of the log
here... Don't try and fix anything yet----most entries are harmless and needed.

Hi Kathleen ...
Set Windows to show Hidden files and folders
* Click Start.
* Open My Computer.
* Select the Tools menu and click Folder Options.
* Select the View Tab.
* Under the Hidden files and folders heading select Show hidden files and folders.
* Uncheck the Hide protected operating system files (recommended) option.
* Click Yes to confirm.
* Click OK.

**(Always create a Folder for HiJackThis anywhere but your Temp/Temporary Internet Folders. This is where it will save the backup files needed if there's a problem.)**

Press Ctrl/Alt/Del and "End Task" or "End Process" on each of the following: (They may or may not be there)

csifcsvc.exe
nun.exe
kalvuwp32.exe
systemwin32s.exe
ggviewer67-0.exe

Turn off System Restore. (Turn it back on after this is repaired and you've rebooted.) Close all other open Windows and have HiJackThis Fix:

I have completed the steps in your last post and include my latest HJT log (120804b).

Of note:In Remove Programs, I could not get a confirmation message for EliteToolBar.

Also, after a complete hard drive search, I could not find the following to delete:
nun.exe;kaluwp32.exe;systemwin32s.exe;ggviewer67-0.exe.

Sigh. It is still there.

I have followed your instructions very carefully - surely by now I have partially completed brain surgery certification.

It took 4 executions of HJT to remove everything requested, but that did finally succeed.

I did find a Temporary Internet File folder that I missed last time. A search of the hard drive, and then a manual check verified that I emptied them all, and then the recycle bin.

I have tripled checked that I have enabled the "show all files" choices and searched for the 3 requested files. I even did a wildcard search (i.e. nun*.*)to find them and they are simply not visible - to me anyway.

This exercise would probably be very interesting if it wasn't so annoying!

Thanks for your commitment to the problem - further suggestions are most welcome.

Cactus,

You did it!

Working in safe mode, I could see the files that needed to be deleted and did so with gusto.

I believe the attached log will verify that EliteBar is gone.

Thank you very very much, and best wishes for your holidays.

Hi Cactus,
I am in desperate need of help!  I have the same exact problem as Kathleen.  I can't seem to get rid of elitebar! Hopefully, you could give me some guidance and banish elitebar from my life! Sad

P.S. I don't know why but I can't seem to insert my HJT log file on this post. Do I need to change it to a .txt instead of .log? Or is something else wrong?
