Operating System Version:  XP Pro
Problem Application Name & Version: Nero 6 / itunes
Problem Hardware Make & Model: Dell Dimension 8200
Error Messages: 1628 Installation imcomplete

Search the net and this forum for solutions to no avail. Suddenly my internal NEC 7900A wont burn. Keeps coming up with a "power calibration" error. I can see it -- read it, but no burn. I have tried Nero, Windows "drag and drop" and apple itunes. No luck. The only recent software addition I made was MAGIX MP3 Maker 2005. (Since Deleted that)

Now here comes the twist...

Someone at NEC suggested I delete two files in regedit called "low filters" and "high filters" in the 4D36E965-E325-11CE-08002BE1038 folder. I think that is the one that covers CDRWs. I quickly learned that I had tread where perhaps I should not have. Deleting the files did not help.

Purchased an external USB DVD/CDR hoping it may just be a driver. Same thing...I can read, but not write. Actually the DVD wont play either, but that is the least of my worries. Everytime I attempt to re-install itunes it comes back with the 1628 error

I have read the itunes forum with not much help. tried the Installshield help etc

Any ideas? Patches?

Thanks folks & Happy Holidays
