Error Messages: Please insert a disk...

Someone gave us a custom PC that was built for gaming (no it's not stolen.) Anywho, my DVD Rom won't read DVDs.  It will play CD Roms but when I try to run a DVD it just says "Please insert a disk into the disk drive D:" I have downloaded the drivers that I found in another forum message to 'Hurdy' but it still won't read...Any help would be muchly appreciated.

It's possible the DVD laser is broken. That happens at times. Not even a firmware update can overcome this little niggle.

DVD players have 2 lasers, one for CDs and one for DVDs. It's usually the CD laser that breaks first, but it's not uncommon for the DVD laser to break. Try another DVD player.
