Hello jamser

An embedded file is a file that is contained inside of an archive file also know as a .zip file or compressed file etc. When AVG lists the file description, it lists both the actuall file and path along with the infected file inside of it.

Usually when you can't find a file, it is because your system is still set to hide certain files types or folders. I'll go through the steps for WinXP to "unhide" all files and folders.

1. Click on My Computer to open it.
2. Select "Tools" from the menu on top.
3. Select "Folder Options".
4. Select the "View" tab.
5. Scroll down and Select "Show hidden files and folders".
6. Unselect "Hide extentions for known file types".
7. Unselect "Hide protected operating system files". (WinME / WinXP)
8. If you get a "warning" prompt, say yes you want to do it anyway. (WinME / WinXP)
9. Click Apply and Ok.

First lets make a few changes to your AVG so it can scan all files instead of just executable files.

From the AVG Test Center
1. Open the Test menu at the top of the window.
2. Select "Complete Test Settings"
3. In the File Extentions area, select "Scan all files", click the OK button.
4. Repeat it for "Select Areas Test Settings.

Now try running AVG again.

I just noticed you SAVED HJT to your Desktop...
Please make a folder for Hijackthis.
It's not adviseable to leave it on your desktop, backups will be spread all over your screen ..
Right click an empty spot in the MyDocuments Folder----left click NEW---Folder
Name it HJT---copy and paste hijackthis to that new folder and delete the one on the desktop originally downloaded.

Your logfile is NOT clean.. Lips Sealed

Geekgirl.......There is no way to post the results.  You cannot use that program for removal unless you pay for it.  It shows 58 severe items, 1 in memory, 52 in the registry and 5 files.

???Can anybody help me get rid of these without paying for yet another program?Huh?Huh?SadUndecided

Cactus......I've been busy.  When I ran ad-aware, I had 758 critical objects.  Did all that you requested then ran AVG. The Trojan Horse Dialer.8.H is still there. I did a search for it and it is in C:\info6.cab (13kb). When I click on it there is information.exe (52kb). I even went to the AVG help forum and followed all instructions for removal to no avail! I don't want to reformat. Surely there is some way to get rid of this!

Thanks for your help.....................

Cactus..................I am on my last raw nerve with this thing!!!  If I know what it is and where it is, why can't I go there and zap it?
It is in C:\info6.cab (13kb). When I click on it there is information.exe.

I called my computer manfacturer and they could not answer my question which was, "What programs do you absolutely have to have running in the processes folder in order to run this machine.  Get this, they said that any programs that you download from the internet have spyware, trojans and viruses in them INCLUDING all antivirus programs, all spy ware removal programs, including ad-aware, all programs except the ones that you can purchase from them for only $99.99.Undecided  The man was a complete moron but he was VERY intent upon selling me that $99.99 package!

I cannot reformat this computer since my brother does not have any of his disks that came with it.  :(I know that there MUST be some way to remove this dialer: Dialer.8.H, the trojan horse living in my cabs as info6 with the execution name of information.exe.  Just because my log file is clean does not mean that it is not there.UndecidedUndecidedUndecided Thanks for your help!

Thanks, Jo Ann for Jim
