PLEASE SUPPLY RELEVANT INFORMATION:
Operating System Version:Windows XP 5.1 SP1
Problem Application Name & Version: aaawebsearch
Problem Hardware Make & Model:HP Pavilion a245c
Error Messages:

My home page gets redirected to http://www.aaawebsearch.com after every reboot.   I've removed the registry entries for it, but
they keep reappearing.  Also, I keep getting popups for something
called 69s*xsearch.  I found and uninstalled  Bullseye.
I've run Norton Anti-virus, CWShredder, SpySubtract, Spybot S&D,
Ad-Aware SE, and installed AddSubtract, all to no avail.

Set Windows to show Hidden files and folders
* Click Start.
* Open My Computer.
* Select the Tools menu and click Folder Options.
* Select the View Tab.
* Under the Hidden files and folders heading select Show hidden files and folders.
* Uncheck the Hide protected operating system files (recommended) option.
* Click Yes to confirm.
* Click OK.

*** ALL WINDOWS INCLUDING THIS ONE MUST BE CLOSED ***

**(Always create a Folder for HiJackThis anywhere but your Temp/Temporary Internet Folders. This is where it will save the backup files needed if there's a problem.)**

Press Ctrl/Alt/Del and "End Task" or "End Process" on each of the following: (They may or may not be there)

tsck32fms.exe
xpsp2fw.exe
m?iexec.exe
freecell.exe
znkxvjs.exe

Turn off System Restore WinXP WinME. (Turn it back on after this is repaired and you've rebooted.) Close all other open Windows and have HiJackThis Fix:

The next are optional, but recommended for removal,Resource hogs and not needed on startup, but does not disable the program:

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [TkBellExe] "C:\Program Files\Common Files\Real\Update_OB\realsched.exe" -osboot

O4 - Global Startup: Microsoft Office.lnk = C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office\OSA9.EXE

Go to Control Panel / Add/Remove Programs and remove the
 following if they are there:

XPSP2 Firewall

Now delete these Folders or Files that are Highlighted: (You may need enable "Show all Files" and disable "Hide System Files" in Windows Explorer / Tools / Folder Options / View Tab) (You may have to boot to "Safe Mode" in order to delete some Files/Folders)

C:\WINDOWS\system32\tsck32fms.exe

C:\WINDOWS\System32\m?iexec.exe
C:\WINDOWS\System32\pzk.dll
C:\WINDOWS\System32\znkxvjs.exe

Now, empty all your TEMP Folders (WinXp has up to 4 of them) / Temporary Internet Files Folder and then empty your "Recycle Bin" and Reboot.

In Xp, here are some locations of Temp files

C:\Documents and Settings\Administrator\Local Settings\Temporary Internet Files
C:\Documents and Settings\Username\Local Settings\Temporary Internet Files
C:\Documents and Settings\Default User\Local Settings\Temporary Internet Files
C:\Documents and Settings\LocalService\Local Settings\Temporary Internet Files
C:\Documents and Settings\NetworkService\Local Settings\Temporary Internet Files

Turn on System restore,before opening your browser goto START>CONTROL PANEL>INTERNET OPTIONSand make sure your Homepage is correct,if not ,type the URL you would like in the HomePage box.

Now re-run HJT and post a new logfile back here.

Still not quite gone.   The file "xpsp2res.exe" keeps reappearing.  There're also  "xpsp2res.dat" and "xpsp2res.dll" files.

Here's the new HJT log (after removing the aaawebsearch entries):

Set Windows to show Hidden files and folders
* Click Start.
* Open My Computer.
* Select the Tools menu and click Folder Options.
* Select the View Tab.
* Under the Hidden files and folders heading select Show hidden files and folders.
* Uncheck the Hide protected operating system files (recommended) option.
* Click Yes to confirm.
* Click OK.

Press Ctrl/Alt/Del and "End Task" or "End Process" on each of the following: (They may or may not be there)

Turn off System Restore WinXP WinME. (Turn it back on after this is repaired and you've rebooted.) Close all other open Windows and have HiJackThis Fix:

C:\Documents and Settings\Default User\Local Settings\Temporary Internet Files
C:\Documents and Settings\LocalService\Local Settings\Temporary Internet Files
C:\Documents and Settings\NetworkService\Local Settings\Temporary Internet Files

Turn on System restore,before opening your browser goto START>CONTROL PANEL>INTERNET OPTIONSand make sure your Homepage is correct,if not ,type the URL you would like in the HomePage box.

Now re-run HJT and post a new logfile back here.

XPSP2FW is not an installed product.   It just kept coming back.  After deleting the files (yet again), I
ran PANDA Activescan.   Iy removed the following files:
C:\Program Files\Windows Media Player\wmplayer.exe.tmp
C:\WINDOWS\system32\tscmpbkpwso.exe
C:\WINDOWS\telnet.exe

Now, my PC finally appears to be free of it.   Thanks for your help.

I've got a problem.  You had me delete C:\WINDOWS\System32\msiexec.exe .   Apparently, this is the Windows Installer program.   How do I reinstall/recover this file?
