PLEASE SUPPLY RELEVANT INFORMATION:
Operating System Version:win xp home
Problem Application Name & Version:divx 5
Problem Hardware Make & Model:toshiba s157
Error Messages:none---just a question

Can you guys tell me if there is a clean verion of DIVX available or if there is a clean alternative?  My daughter is home from college and I need to clean her machine but she really wants to keep that functionality.  I'm confused because some sites say that the $20 PRO version of divx is even dirty.

thanks,
Jeff

Not sure what you mean jeffcox...

DIVX is a video encoding application that lets you create DivX

I meant that it came with a lot of spyware (up until version 5.1 I understand).  That's what I meant by dirty.  I had found many sites speaking of the spyware and adware that it contained.  I had also seen man sites telling of a method to keep DIVX on a computer but you had to protect a specific "claria" registry from being taken out by Ad-Aware in order to do that.  I wrote to you folks to see if you had addressed the issue before.  Anyway, after a couple of hours of reviewing other sites and other products, I learned of the new 5.2 version (with the 2.6 player).  There are still those out there who do not believe that DIVX is clean but, after downloading the new version, I do believe that it probably is.

thanks,
Jeff
