I have recently put up a website.  This is my first website so I'm very new to all of this.  My question is I want to have people be able to google search it.  I have done some research and know that I'd have to do something with META tags, which I don't really understand.  I know this even doesn't always work.  Also I heard about search Engine optimizers but I don't have a desire to pay a fee.

Also, what I have tried I have been able to search the website through yahoo but not google.  But the search doesn't give me the main home page.  I want the main homepage to be what shows up when someone puts in a keyword for my website.

In the simplest way possible for someone who doesn't understand much tell me how I can accomplish this.  My website is www.volsquartet.com

Thanks

You could always submit the website at http://www.submitexpress.com/ and http://www.google.com/addurl.html

Then with regard to the keywords you use.
quote:
<meta name="keywords" content="Vols String Quartet, Vols am Schlern, Schlern Music Festival, String Quartet, Daniel Andai, Iryna Krechkovsky, Lucas Shogren, Joel Pagan, Vols, Loredo Community College, Vols Quartet">

Put every single word in as it is, not as combinations. Like this:
quote:
<meta name="keywords" content="Vols, String, Quartet, am, Schlern, Music, Festival, String, Quartet, Daniel, Andai, Iryna, Krechkovsky, Lucas, Shogren, Joel, Pagan, Loredo, Community, College">

Additionally, only keep the keywords on your home.htm page, or you'll never accomplish what you're aiming for.
Then, of course, search engines also look in the text that's published on your site, so you can't really bypass it, unless you go for some serverside scripting, should it be available to you.
But that final point is a side issue, unless you're comfortable with trying out a serverside scripting language like php or asp. My preference is php, mainly because it's easy to learn and easily added to clean html code.

Firstly META tags mean nothing at all to Google, the only thing Google reads is the TITLE tag and the main body content. And since most search engines use Googles feeds, I wouldn
