Through Windows Update, I take it?

That's correct. Windows 98, Windows 98SE and Windows Millennium Edition are no longer updated through Windows Update. They are as Microsoft calls it too old to give further help on, work on etc.

Nothing I can point you to, but for a newer Windows version.

That's not quite true Jee
Microsoft has extended its support, "Paid incident support for Windows 98, Windows 98 Second Edition, and Windows Millennium Edition (Me) is available through June 30, 2006."
Critical security updates will be provided on the Windows Update Site through June 30, 2006.

It would help if the OP gave a little more detail - like where in the process Windows Updates fails, and what (if any) error messages he gets.
I'd start by checking out the IE Security settings in Internet Options - set Internet Zone to Medium/Default, and see what that does to help

I recently had a problem when I turned on my PC. I would get a error message something about a library and no matter what I did or how hard I tryed the error message is all I could get and I couldn't turn the PC off the normal way so in desperation I used my recovery disc and the PC started working again but now I couldn't download Macromedia Flash Player and I couldn't do windows update and I can't install Google Tool Bar so I checked my security settings and they were at default so I lowered them and that didn't help so I followed MS instructions when you have problems and that doesen't help either. I'm using Windows 98 2nd editon and Explorer 5. Can anybody help? Tom
I tried some other stuff with help from another site but nothing seems to help. Update fails as soon as I go to MS site and try to up date

Somewhere between when you used you recovery disc and tried to download all this shat, did you also reinstall your internet connection as it should be?

Try this link to see if you can get any updates from it. DO NOT use any of the links that refer to the Update Site.
