PLEASE SUPPLY RELEVANT INFORMATION:
Operating System Version: WinXP Home SP2
Problem Application Name & Version:
Problem Hardware Make & Model:
Error Messages:

A couple of days ago I went to a site on the internet and then a bunch of pages poped up all at once, I closed them but I think I got a virus or something from that.  I restarted my computer and my antivirus software said there was a malicious script running.  So it stopped it.  But my antivirus software (norton) is really out of date so I don't think it really helped that much.  So I went to trendmicro and did a scan, I got rid of the stuff it found.  But I still had problems so I got a some new anitvirus software (McAfee).  I scanned with it and got rid of the problems, now when I scan with it, it comes up clean.  But my computer is lagging really bad, and when I try to play movie files they have extreme slowdown at parts, which never happened before.

So thats when I came here.  I went back to trendmicro to do a scan, but it stops at scanning system files and doesn't get any further.  I also ran Adware and SpyBot and got rid of all the stuff they found.  But my computer is still lagging.  So I guess there is still a problem.  Here is my hijackthis log.

Hello srob19... first off..UPDATE your NORTON ANTI-VIRUS DEFINITIONS

Then...

Download,Install,Update then run Spybot Search & Destroy
Fix eveything in RED

Then...

If you haven't done so already Download and Install
Ad-Aware

CHECK FOR UPDATES
Set these for a Custom Scan
click the gear wheel at the top and check these options:

General> activate these: "Automatically save log-file" and "Automatically quarantine objects prior to removal"

Scanning > activate these: "Scan within archives", "Scan active processes", "Scan registry", "Deep scan registry", "Scan my IE Favorites for banned sites" and "Scan my Hosts file"

Tweaks > Scanning Engine> activate this: "Unload recognized processes during scanning."

Tweaks > Cleaning Engine: activate these: "Automatically try to unregister objects prior to deletion" and "Let Windows remove files in use after reboot."

Click "Proceed" to save your settings, then click "Start", make sure "Activate in-depth scan" is ticked green then scan your system. When the scan is finished, the screen will tell you if anything has been found, click "Next". The bad files will be listed, right click the pane and click "Select all objects" - this will put a check mark in the box at the side, click "Next" again and click "OK" at the prompt "# objects will be removed. Continue?".
Ensure you reboot after running Ad-Aware if it found objects
to remove, so it can properly remove them.

After you have Re-booted Re-run HJT and post back with another logfile...

I can't update my Norton definitions because my subscription ran out around 2 years ago.  So I uninstalled Norton and got McAfee, I did this yesterday.

SpyBot found "DSO Exploit" (5 entries), which it seems to find every time I run it.
Adware did not find anything.

Here is the log.

Set Windows to show Hidden files and folders
* Click Start.
* Open My Computer.
* Select the Tools menu and click Folder Options.
* Select the View Tab.
* Under the Hidden files and folders heading select Show hidden files and folders.
* Uncheck the Hide protected operating system files (recommended) option.
* Click Yes to confirm.
* Click OK.

Press Ctrl/Alt/Del and "End Task" or "End Process" on each of the following: (They may or may not be there)

wuauclt.exe
SpySweeper.exe

Turn off System Restore WinXP WinME. (Turn it back on after this is repaired and you've rebooted.) Close all other open Windows and have HiJackThis Fix:

It is still lagging, and when I try and watch a movie file it still slows down sometimes.
Is there something else I can check to see what is wrong.

This message just popped up on my computer.

mcinfo.exe - Application Error

The instruction at "0x7726c951" referenced memory at "0x00000000".  The memory could not be "read".
Click on OK to terminate the program

Could this have anything to do with the problem I'm having?

mcinfo.exe is for your McAfee Anti-virus program. Try a software update first, but if that doesn't work, try doing a full uninstall and re-install.

Don't panic, but some viruses try to kill your AV program. Do a full system scan first to make sure everything's ok.
