PLEASE SUPPLY RELEVANT INFORMATION:
Operating System Version: Win XP Home SP1

I recently had to reformat my hard drive. Since then, I have been re-installing my programs/devices/drivers etc.. I put it my motherboard CD to reinstall the sound card drivers. About 80% through it said something like "Unable to find Shell.Dat", I let it finish and it appeared in my "Add/Remove Programs" list. Okay then I go to adjust my sound settings, it says there is no audio device. So I try to reinstall my drivers, it goes through. I went in and adjusted the settings, I'd finish it up and shut it down for the evening. The next day I went and there was no sound. Then I uninstalled it, reinstalled it and restarted it and there was no sound again. Repeated it several times, and here I am still with no sound. What should I do???

Goto START
Right click MyComputer
Choose properties
Select the Hardware Tab
Click Device Manager

Are there any Yellow exclamation marks in there beside the AUDIO Device?

Put the CD with the Audio Drivers in the Cd-Rom...close the window when it opens.

Now go back to Device Manager
Highlight the Audio Controller with the exclamation mark
Click UPDATE driver...
Point to the CD-Rom and let it find the drivers..
