Your own PC? Is it a legal copy of Windows XP? Is this specific copy already installed on another PC?

Well I don't really know about the copy !
It's from a friend of mine. It looks like a copy from he's version !
And it's installed on his computer.

In that case, read the End Users License Agreement. You're only allowed to install one copy of XP with a certain serial number and activation code on one PC at a time. As soon as you contact the Windows Update, your friend's serial number & activation code is being sent to the servers of Microsoft. They probably compare the setup of the machine with that of your friend's, find that it is a completely different machine and you get a message back that asks for the Windows serial number and activation code before you can use it.

There are legal ways around it, such as buying your own copy of Windows XP and there are illegal ways around it, but I cannot help you with that through here.
