Hi, I have a strange problem and I'm doubtful that it can be solved over internet messages but I'd like to try.  I don't know what place to put this in, there isn't really a proper forum.  But since it may involve quicktime, flash, windows media player and whatever software plays sounds online (is it Explorer?  The OS?) I decided to post here.

I'm using Windows xp (home).

I have never had problems or issues related to sound before.  I recently had internet hoooked up, unfortunately I was at work during the process and my boss accompanied the service guy to my home.  When I arrived home I discovered that I have no sound anymore.  Some looking around showed me that I have midi sound from webpages, and I have sound with a program I use called "mercury audio player" but no sound for WMP and no sound for other net sound files (including flash, quicktime, etc.)

Does this sound like anything anybody has experienced before?  I've never heard of a selective problem like this.
