Get a Windows 98 bootfloppy image from this link. Save it to your desktop on your PC, then doubleclick it and decrompress the contents to a floppy.

Next thing you do is boot your PC with this floppy, making sure beforehand that the 2.5 inch drive is connected and found by your system. You'll want to start MSDOS using CDROM drivers.

Now please make sure you know which drive is the 2.5inch drive, before you reformat it.
Drive letters as shown under Windows don't need to be the same as they are under MSDOS. My I: drive in Windows for instance is D: in DOS.

So start going through the drive letters until you are sure you're on the 2.5inch drive.
C: D: E: F: G: H: you name it. For example purposes I will call it G:

Found it? Right, now you type format G: /s this will format the drive and leave the system files behind so it can boot up. When done and you named it, do the following. Type:
md Windows {enter}
md Windows\Options {enter}
md Windows\Options\Cabs {enter}
cd Windows\Options\Cabs {enter}

Now navigate to your PC's CDROM drive, maybe it's D: ?
Then type:
dir {enter}
make a note of what the Windows folder is called. Windows or Win98. I'll assume the latter for now.
Type cd win98 {enter}
xcopy *.* /e G: {enter}

That will copy all the contents of the Win98 folder on the CD to the G:\windows\options\cabs folder.
Power down your system when that is done, place the 2.5 inch drive back in the laptop, boot her up, then when she's fully booted type cd windows\options\cabs {enter}, followed by setup {enter}

Windows 98 will begin to install. And probably ask for a lot of drivers. But that's not what you asked for. Wink
