PLEASE SUPPLY RELEVANT INFORMATION:
Operating System Version: Windows Xp SP2

My PC sometimes freezes when I am working on it.  It seems to happen most often (but not exclusively) when I'm on the net(Sometimes I don't even get past the Welcome screen).  I cannot get Norton AV to run a full system scan without it freezing when in normal use but it does complete one in safe mode, is this relevant. The same goes for Ad-Aware and Spybot.  I had the Motherboard replaced a couple of months ago because of the same problem and everything seemed ok for a while but now the old problem is back.  Am very very confused and would appreciate any help.
Many Thanks. Ben

Could you give some more details about your system, CPU etc. Did you install any hardware or software before the problem started? Scanning in safe mode is pretty much the as in normal mode so if the scans show nothing then there mightn't be any virus or anything like that. The problem could be due to a number of different things so we'll have to try and narrow it down.

If possible make sure that your virus definitions are up to date and try scanning again and do the same with Ad-aware and Spyware.

Can you remember when the problem started? Does the pc "un-freeze" or do you have to restart it?

After doing what KaTaLy5t has asked you to do you can post a HJT logfile in the Security & Viruses

We'll have a look into what's running on your pc...

Download Hijackthis Ver. 1.99

---Important---Create a permanent folder
EG---- Open MyDocuments----Right click an empty spot and select NEW---Folder----Name the new folder HJT ---this is where you will want to save Hijackthis too, also, backups will be stored there.
Download from here
http://aumha.org/downloads/hijackthis.exe

Do a SCAN----Scan will change to SAVE LOG----copy and paste the WHOLE contents of the log
in the Security & Virus Forum... Don't try and fix anything yet----most entries are harmless and needed.

**PLEASE**.....do not post your hijack log in someone else's thread. Start a separate thread HERE! Thank you.

Thanks for the quick response both of you.  I have got the latest definitions installed, so I am fairly sure its not a virus, it just puzzles me as to why a scan will only complete in safe mode.  The CPU is a P4 (2.4 I think)and I can't remember installing any new software or hardware since I had the motherboard replaced.  I have posted the HJT log in the Security and Viruses forum.

Many Thanks Ben
