PLEASE SUPPLY RELEVANT INFORMATION:
Operating System Version:Windows XP Professional
Problem Application Name & Version:Activating?
Problem Hardware Make & Model:
Error Messages:

Just installed my Dell Copy of Windows XP Professional over a previous instalation of Windows Home Edition. I have been given 30 days to activate???

I thought you did NOT have to activate Windows XP Professional?

Or am I getting a reminder to activate windows because I did not format properly? Is it because I installed Windows XP Professional on top of Windows XP Home Edition? Is there still elements of Windows XP  Home Edition on my hard drive causing me to activate Windows???

The only Windows XP version that you don't need to activate, is the Corporate Edition.
That's to enable companies to install it without having to go through the hassle of activating a few hundred machines in a relatively short time.

What you want to do is just activate it and then not worry anymore. On the other hand, if your version of XP is of the shady disposition, then I'd not recommend it Wink
