PLEASE SUPPLY RELEVANT INFORMATION:
Operating System Version: Win Server 2003
Problem Application Name & Version:  Main Desktop
Problem Hardware Make & Model: IBM Intellistation
Error Messages: Frozen Desktop

Sad  I'm stumped...if you'd like a good challenge try this one:  it seems like my desktop or desktop logon files have been hijacked or corrupted.  When I doubleclick a program icon on the desktop the mouse cursor just turns into an permanent hourglass.  Alt-Ctl-Del does nothing so I can't get to the task manager.  When I re-boot sometimes the desktop icons don't even appear.  When I re-boot in safe mode with networking I am able to run programs, get e-mail and surf the internet with IE.  When I use msconfig to load win.ini, system.ini and startup files (but not system services) to re-boot out of safe mode I am able to run apps like Excel & Word from the desktop finally but can't load IE or Outlook for e-mail.  I've used Spybot, Adaware, TrendMicro, SpywareDoctor, SpyScanware, CWSShredder and SpywareBlaster all to no avail.  HijackThis log is shown below.  Thanks for taking a look.

Set Windows to show Hidden files and folders
* Click Start.
* Open My Computer.
* Select the Tools menu and click Folder Options.
* Select the View Tab.
* Under the Hidden files and folders heading select Show hidden files and folders.
* Uncheck the Hide protected operating system files (recommended) option.
* Click Yes to confirm.
* Click OK.

Press Ctrl/Alt/Del and "End Task" or "End Process" on each of the following: (They may or may not be there)

mgabg.exe

Turn off System Restore WinXP WinME. (Turn it back on after this is repaired and you've rebooted.) Close all other open Windows and have HiJackThis Fix:

O9 - Extra 'Tools' menuitem: Sun Java Console - {08B0E5C0-4FCB-11CF-AAA5-00401C608501} - C:\Program Files\Java\j2re1.4.2_05\bin\npjpi142_05.dll

O16 - DPF: {74D05D43-3236-11D4-BDCD-00C04F9A3B61} (HouseCall Control) - http://a840.g.akamai.net/7/840/537/2004061001/housecall.trendmicro.com/housecall/xscan53.cab

O23 - Service: MGABGEXE - Matrox Graphics Inc. - C:\WINDOWS\system32\mgabg.exe

Now, empty all your TEMP Folders (WinXp has up to 4 of them) / Temporary Internet Files Folder and then empty your "Recycle Bin" and Reboot.

Turn on System Restore

Before opening your browser goto START>CONTROL PANEL>INTERNET OPTIONSand make sure your Homepage is correct,if not ,type the URL you would like in the HomePage box.

Now using the Windows Update link in my signature...go and Download ALL the Critical Updates and Service Packs ...

Now re-run HJT and post a new logfile back here.
