I searched the forums and cant find anything that explains my problem SadSad.  I've seen some others with almost the same problem but I didnt see anything that explains ho to corect it.   What my CDROM does is when i put in a CD, all it does is make spinning noises, the led lights on and off, but nothing, the icons in my computer do not show up, sometimes my mouse freezes.  This had started happening when I ran a program that cleans out the hard drive of duplicate folders and junk.  My OS is as follows:

AMD Athlon XP 1800 +
512 mb ram ddr
Philips re write cd rom pcrw804
Epox mother board
WinXp Pro
