Missing Menu Bar and task bars.
Hi. Please can anyone tell me how to restore the Menu Bar and the task bar in Word? When I open it, I am at a new blank document page - but no menus. I have tried Alt V, Alt F etc., but nothing seems to work. I have also tried deleting Word and re-installing it, but still no luck. Thank you

Hello lancs10,
This will Reset All Menus to Their Defaults:
On the Tools menu, click Customize.
Click on the Toolbars tab.
In the Toolbars list, click Menu Bar. Do not click to clear the Menu Bar check box.
Click Reset
Word displays the Reset Toolbar dialog box with the following message:
Reset changes made to 'Menu Bar' toolbar for:
Normal.dot
Lemme know if that works

Hi Geek Girl. thank you for your help. Unfortunately I cannot access any items on the Menu bar - no File, Edit, Tools, etc., I have tried Alt T hoping the Tools menu would come up, but no luck.
My young niece tried to make a shortcut on the desktop (I don't know what she did) and that is when the Menu bar disappeared.

Ok ..I apologize for that, wasnt thinking.
First show hidden files and folders:
To enable the viewing of Hidden files follow these steps:
Close all programs so that you are at your desktop.
Double-click on the My Computer icon.
Select the View menu and then click Folder Options.
After the new window appears select the View tab.
Scroll down until you see the Show all files radio button and select it.
Press the Apply button and then the OK button and close the My Computer window.
Now your computer is configured to show all hidden files.
Next Go to C:\Windows\Application Data\Microsoft\Templates
Rename Normal.dot to Normal.dot old.
Reboot
Open Micorsoft Word, it should be fixed.
Lemme know
