PLEASE SUPPLY RELEVANT INFORMATION:
Operating System Version: Dell 333mhz Win 98 Pent II
Problem Application Name & Version:
Problem Hardware Make & Model: Memorex 52X CD Burner
Error Messages: None

I have installed this burner and computer locks up on startup-desktop is there but no keys are functional-pointer is a constant hourglass.
When I disconnect the burner and leave CD Rom the way it was I am ok.
Was told to set burner to cable select if my CD Rom was, so I did. I left the #1 IDE cable to hard drive alone, then installed the supllied Ide (2) cable from mother board to Cd Rom (slave) then the end of Ide Cable goes to burner (master). My directions say put burner as master and cd as slave, but have heard otherwise. I also plugged in the audio cable from burner to aux in on sound card. I inspected the pins and all look good...also paid close attention which way all connectors go in before attempting to unplug and plug in. Any thoughts would be appreciated  Thanks  Jeff

Guess what ? compusa has free tech support for 30 days on hardware. I was told to change jumpers from cable select (like instructions said) to master and slave-think it works fine now. Just got software loaded so probably will be ok-haven't had a chance to burn any (CD's that is)
