PLEASE SUPPLY RELEVANT INFORMATION:
Operating System Version: Win 98 SE
Problem Application Name & Version: preotech.exe, paco.exe
Problem Hardware Make & Model:
Error Messages:

Hi guys,

I don't know if you guys can help.  You certainly cured my About Blank problem, which I was very grateful for.

This problem seems less bad, but is still annoying.
After about 10 or more mins of surfing, I sometimes get a message such as Preotech is trying to access the internet.  Sometimes, it's been paco.exe.  I did search and destroy some wintitle and other stuff.  It seems to lodge in my main C drive folder or in the win system (usually the former).  I think, thanks to previous advice from you, I've gotten rid of a lot of the problem myself by using Adware SE and Lavasoft.  Even so, I expect there muast be a dll file or such like that keeps putting these files back in evertime I remove them.  Any ideas?  It seems to be some sort of s*x dialler or similar...but I'm not sure.

Here's a HJT log

This extra info may or may not be useful, but recently this problem has got me around to checking my files and folders by date now and then...I notice that when preotect strikes I also get new files on my C:drive main folder (or at least changed ones):

Autoexec.bat
commands.ini
Bootlog.txt
bootlog.prv

Maybe these are part of the problem?

Ok more info...this time I let the problem recur and logged down what happened before I blasted it.

First, after 10 mins of surfing I get an error message and preotect.exe.  The error message said error linked to missing file shell32DLL:strstrla.  The, if I go off line immediately, only preotech shows up.  If I hang around for a min, I get extra messages a pop up s*x dialer and these appear in either C main folder or Win/sys -
video.exe, eerre.exe, wines.exe and paco.exe.  I've seen this happen several times.  This time, I deleted them all, but part way through, did a HJT log again:

One more thing, which may help is that appearing at the same time as the 4 above mentioned files is:
wintitle.dll
winsuck.dll

these, though, appear in win/system.

Hope that can help.

Start by going to JavaCoolSoftware and download both Spywareblaster and Spywareguard.

Then boot to safe mode and then search out and delete the following files:

C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\KERNEL32.DLL
C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\WINSUCK.DLL
C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\WINTITLE.DLL

Then run HijackThis again and let it delete the following registry entries:

O2 - BHO: BHO Class - {575A5AE9-B68E-4BEB-BACB-FE430448C654} - C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\WINSUCK.DLL
O2 - BHO: BHO Class - {F6053709-5723-454E-AB9D-7FC7E681AFA5} - C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\WINTITLE.DLL

Then reboot and run Hijack This again. See if the offending files have reappeared.
If they haven't, then install the two programs I mentioned at the start and update them ASAP.
Finally reboot again and run Hijack This again and post the log here.

Kernel32.dll is a known Trojan horse, which is quite annoying. Source LIUtilities

C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\KERNEL32.DLL is a part of 98. Remove that and you in trouble.

Ok, I did run HJT again to remove that last 015 item.

I had the idea of running Win Explorer and searching by date for files and folders - and then by type.  I think that helped, becuase I found 5 Winsuck backups.  I deleted them.  Also 2 files called silent(1).exe and silent_install(1).exe which looke dodgy - at least I hope they were.  Only problem maybe if those last two were part of Spywareblaster - if so, then I can always reinstall.

I hope you guys spot what else I can do to remove the problem.

Cheers

Ok Walrus67 let's clean this logfile .. Lips Sealed

Set Windows to show Hidden files and folders
* Click Start.
* Open My Computer.
* Select the Tools menu and click Folder Options.
* Select the View Tab.
* Under the Hidden files and folders heading select Show hidden files and folders.
* Uncheck the Hide protected operating system files (recommended) option.
* Click Yes to confirm.
* Click OK.

Press Ctrl/Alt/Del and "End Task" or "End Process" on each of the following: (They may or may not be there)

InCD.exe
RSRCMTR.EXE

Close all other open Windows and have HiJackThis Fix:

R0 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Start Page = http://edit.europe.yahoo.com/config/login?.intl=uk&.partner=bt-1&.done=http%3a//bt.yahoo.com/%3f

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [InCD] C:\Program Files\Ahead\InCD\InCD.exe

O4 - Startup: Resource Meter.lnk = C:\WINDOWS\RSRCMTR.EXE

Now, empty all your TEMP Folders / Temporary Internet Files Folder and then empty your "Recycle Bin" and Reboot.

Before opening your browser goto START>CONTROL PANEL>INTERNET OPTIONS and make sure your Homepage is correct,if not ,type the URL you would like in the HomePage box.

Now re-run HJT and post a new logfile back here.

As you can see, it all cleared except for the item at 015.  Should I try removing that again, or is there another problem to sort with it?

Ok to remove these...

O15 - Trusted Zone: *.frame.crazywinnings.com
O15 - Trusted Zone: *.frame.crazywinnings.com (HKLM)

Download and run DELDOMAINS
Double click to open the DelDomains.inf.
To execute the file: right-click and Select 'Install' from the Menu.

Post a fresh log when done.

I forgot to say this.  I got rid of temp int files via lavasoft adaware, but double checked on win explorer.  There were a few files left.  I deleted all easily enough, but these wouldn't go.  Maybe they would in safe mode.  Are they important?

2dfdfcc.temp
dfeOac.temp
2df53b5.temp
10(1)cab
index.dat

Are those 015s the same as finefind?  I'll download what you said and give it a go, anyhow.

It is safe to delete these:

2dfdfcc.temp
dfeOac.temp
2df53b5.temp
10(1)cab

It's SAFE to DELETE EVERYTHING in your TEMP Folders.

Ok, well I had another look at my temp folders and found a load of stuff in content.IE5.  I don't know what IE5 stuff is and why it's not removed by ad-aware.  Anyway, I shifted it, but not yet the other files that I would need to go into safe mode for.

Here's my HJT new log:
