I have windows 98 and ran a virus scan and it disinfected my files and it said it had to restart my pc before it took place and when I turn it back on I cant open any of my Desktop Icons because it says it needs loadpe.com to open them I was wonder how I can restore that program.

You don't want or need loadpe.com - it WAS the virus you had.
Boot to DOS
run the command
SCANREG   /FIX
reboot to Windows when it's finished - see if that helps.

You want the worm that lives in Loadpe.com back on your system? Not a wise choice. Wink

Moving you over to the Security & Viruses forum, see if something else is still lingering on your system. Follow the leads of the moderators there, please.

First off that is NOT a System application...it's a website.
This is what I want you to do...

Ok now your in the wrong Forum..click here and Start a NEW Thread.

Download Hijackthis Ver. 1.99
---Important---Create a permanent folder
EG---- Open MyDocuments----Right click an empty spot and select NEW---Folder----Name the new folder HJT ---this is where you will want to save Hijackthis too, also, backups will be stored there.
Download from here
http://aumha.org/downloads/hijackthis.exe

Do a SCAN----Scan will change to SAVE LOG----copy and paste the WHOLE contents of the log
here... Don't try and fix anything yet----most entries are harmless and needed.

To boot to DOS, at the Shutdown window, pick the option to go to DOS.

HJT is a program that will scan your computer and produce a logfile.
This log will tell us if there is any virus, trojan, adware or browser hijacker on your pc.
It's a small application that can be saved to a Floppy disk or your USB Disk.
Just create the Folder like I explain in my post above and SAVE the HJT exe file to that Folder...don't run it from the USB Disk.

NOTE: Make sure you FOLLOW the instruction exactly as posted above. So if you need to print the instructions do it now while your at your friends.. Wink
