PLEASE SUPPLY RELEVANT INFORMATION:
Operating System Version:Windows XP HOME/Windows XP PRO
I have 2 pcs which i am trying to network and get them both on-line, PC1 (XP home) has the direct connection to the net (cable modem with ethernet cable)connected to PC2 (XP PRO) via ethernet cable, when i try and set up ICS on PC1 it says 'An error occurred while Internet Connection Sharing was being enabled.
Cannot complete this function', and i can't get the windows firewall to work on PC1 'Windows cannot start the Windows Firewall/Internet Connection Sharing (ICS) service.
Any ideas please?Huh?

I hope you're using a crossover cable between the machines!!
Otherwise they wont be able to talk to each other, unless you've got a network hub/switch between your two PCs.

Try using a crossover cable and re-enable ICS, see if it makes a difference.

So let me get this straight then.
You have TWO NICs on your main PC and want to use that method to connect your secondary PC to the web.

Which NIC are you trying to enable the sharing on?? And furthermore how have you set up the IP on the "guest" computer.

Please go through everything you've done in an organised manner, step by step, just to make sure we haven't overlooked something, simple or otherwise.

Thanks redaxe but figered it out though, it was some dll file that mucked up.
The fix was...
Start/Run --> cmd.exe
and then, in the command prompt that opened up, type:
netsh.exe winsock reset
and hit Enter. Follow prompts and reboot.
