I am running a small home network with 4 PCs 3 with xp pro and 2 laptops with 98se,
I have a cable connection and use Sygate Personal on the main pc the rest of the pcs access the internet through my proxy server Analogx Proxy run on the main pc.

Question: will this Firewall protect the other pcs? Or only the pc the firewall is installed on.

Also do I have to install anti virus software on all the other pcs or only the main one.

Any advice very welcome

Hi,

If you're using a NAT (e.g. Windows ICS) then the system with the internet connection, which you said has the firewall, should protect to others since it is acting as a gateway and is the only system connected to the internet. As for the antivirus, I would run it on all systems since they are sharing the internet connection and could get infected (e.g. if you're downloading your emails to one of these systems...)
