Operating System Version: XP with SP2 on the desktop and SP1 on the other 2 machines
Problem Application Name & Version: na
Problem Hardware Make & Model: Realtek RTL8139/810x Family Fast Ethernet NIC
Error Messages:

I must be doing something wrong here...

I am trying to hook all my computers up to the internet through an Ethernet Hub (see equipment list below)

If I plug the RealTek NIC on my Desktop directly to the ADSL modem everthing works fine (that's how I am connected to the internet at this very minute).  But when I connect it with the Ethernet Hub I get no lights and the computer says that my Network Cable isn't plugged in.  If I do the same thing from the laptop it fires right up and I can then plug the ADSL modem into the hub and access the internet with no problem.

My pen tablet computer also uses a Realtek 8139, and also does not connect to the hub.    Is there some mysterious thing about these Realtek NIC cards?

Here's the ingredients I have to work with:
  Desktop - WinXPsp2 w/Realtek8139 NIC pci card
  Laptop - WinXPsp1 w/Broadcom440x 10/100 NIC built in
Pen Tablet - WinXPsp1- w/Realtek8139 NIC PCMCIA card
  a Datalink DL-H805 5 port Ethernet Hub
an ethernet based chinese ADSL modem
three regular network cables (not crossover)
