PLEASE SUPPLY RELEVANT INFORMATION:
Operating System Version: Windows XP
Problem Application Name & Version: Popup screens, Internet Explorer
Problem Hardware Make & Model:
Error Messages:

Hey, I'm having some real problems with popups coming onto my computer, and then automatically downloading programs on my computer, which is slowing down the entire system.  My internet is "off and on" where it will be going alright for a couple minutes, then it slows down to a dead snail pace.  I have spybot and Ad aware, as well as symantec anti-virus, but they are not getting rid of the whole problem as it continually happens after I run both of the programs.  I also have a program called Desktop Search that starts every time I start up my computer, even after unchecking it in from the startup tab of the system configuration utility.  Could you let me know if there's anything I can do about this, because I do not want to reformat my computer again (I reformatted about 4 months ago, when this problem got so bad that I couldn't open anything on my computer.

Thanks,
Collin

Hi CDoza4030 .. Smiley

Download Hijackthis Ver. 1.99.1
---Important---Create a permanent folder
EG---- Open MyDocuments----Right click an empty spot and select NEW---Folder----Name the new folder HJT ---this is where you will want to save Hijackthis too, also, backups will be stored there.
Download from here
http://aumha.org/downloads/hijackthis.exe

Do a SCAN----Scan will change to SAVE LOG----copy and paste the WHOLE contents of the log
here in this Thread... Don't try and fix anything yet----most entries are harmless and needed.

Any clue on where I should go from here?  My computer is getting worse as we speak.  I have continually restarted, hoping to clear some of the temporary memory, but it just keeps coming back.  Please help...

Ok CDoza4030 .. Smiley .. let's start with this .. Wink

Ok first..Download LSPFix..unzip it to your Desktop..you can delete it when we are done.

Run LSPFix..put a tick in "I know what I'm doing...
In the left column HIGHLIGHT the file aklsp.dll
Click the right pointing arrow and ADD to the REMOVE column
Scroll down and click Finish

Now ...

Set Windows to show Hidden files and folders
* Click Start.
* Open My Computer.
* Select the Tools menu and click Folder Options.
* Select the View Tab.
* Under the Hidden files and folders heading select Show hidden files and folders.
* Uncheck the Hide protected operating system files (recommended) option.
* Click Yes to confirm.
* Click OK.

**(Always create a Folder for HiJackThis anywhere but your Temp/Temporary Internet Folders. This is where it will save the backup files needed if there's a problem.)**

Press Ctrl/Alt/Del and "End Task" or "End Process" on each of the following: (They may or may not be there)

desktop.exe
ffisearch.exe
n20050308.exe
vmss.exe
MSW.exe
mmod.exe
wo.exe
wsxsvc.exe

Turn off System Restore WinXP WinME. (Turn it back on after this is repaired and you've rebooted.) Close all other open Windows and have HiJackThis Fix:
