Operating System Version:WinXP Pro
Problem Application Name & Version:
Problem Hardware Make & Model:
Error Messages:

This message appeared when I booted up my PC: STOP: C0000218(Registry File Failure) The Registry cannot load the hive (File): \systemroot\system32\config\software or its log or alternate. It is corrupt, absent or not writable. What's this message about?

To check if hdd was working: I removed the hdd and put it as slave, did a Scandisk, found no errors and can still see some files on the drive except the ones that I needed. I need some Word doc files from this hdd but I can't seem to find it. Please advice. Thanks.

Basically you need to get your files off a dead drive, is that right?

Then you can worry about setting up your XP at last, yes

I can easily help you retrieve your lost files, is that what you need first?
