PLEASE SUPPLY RELEVANT INFORMATION:
Operating System Version:w 98 se
Problem Application Name & Version:
Problem Hardware Make & Model:
Error Messages:

I've gotten pretty good at solving hardware problems and have built a couple of PC's.

But I'm clueless when it comes to solving software problems. When I have a system crash I try a few fixes that never seem to work and inevitably reformat and reload.

There's got to be a better way. Can someone please direct me to some good sites to learn how to troubleshoot and fix crashes. Everything's ok for now, but I take care of 4 computers in the family and sooner or later something will crash. I'd like to be prepared.

Thanks,

Sherm

Hey Sherm,

Are you looking for soe software recommendations that will allow you to manage all your utility needs. Because I have all the right stuff here running on my system, both old and new for 98SE. So Ive tested and used it, so I know what works and what is junk.

If your looking for advice then you have already suffered data loss. Do you want to be able to eliminate data loss and never have to reformat and reload ever again. Then I will advise you accurately.

If your looking for tech sites only, I think that Admin and TinCan can probably help as I am new to this sort of forum waffle thing. But if you want to do it yourself and properly, I'll can help you get there.

I have a tape BU and I'm not worried about data loss. But I'd like to fix the problem and not have the hassle of reformating and reloading.

But, I do taxes and have a client coming at 1:00 pm est and need this machine running by then.

I'm sending this to see if you are available.

Thanks,

Sherm

Sorry I bailed out on this. I had a family crisis. In the meantime I had to reformat and reload. I'm still having some problems, but I'm busy with taxes now. If I need help I'll get back to you. Thanks for your help.
