Have you installed any software that changes the desktop theme?

If running Win98SE, try running scanreg to make sure you don't have registry corruption, which would explain why the settings are not "sticking"

Start > Run
Type 'scanreg' hit OK (no quotes)

qUESTION: WHAT TYPE AND ram HAS YOUR VIDEO CARD GOT (woops)

thats better. Its sounds as thought your video driver is wonky and it might be time to search for an updated one or else select a generic driver ( super VGA )from the advanced setting option in Display/control panel.

Sounds as you have to play around with it to find the fault. BUT make sure you have a good boot disk if it all goes wrong when xperimenting

He said with a wry smile........Berty
