PLEASE SUPPLY RELEVANT INFORMATION:
Operating System Version:windows 98
Problem Application Name & Version:
Problem Hardware Make & Model:nvidia geforce 2 mx
Error Messages:"cannot start direct draw"

OK <deep breath>! I recently bought sim city 4, which was only the beginning of my problems! When I tried to run it the programme would not run properly. All I could see was a mass of wiggly lines. So I updated my graphics card drivers as suggested by the EA manual. This did not solve the problem, indeed it appears to have made things worse. Now when I try and launch simcity 4 I get a message saying "Cannot start direct draw". I have used my limited knowledge to try and get around this problem, but I am severely hindered by the fact that when I go into the control panel, then into display then hit the settings tab, my screen disapears and all I am left with is a cursor blinking at the top left of the monitor. My system also crashes when this happens and I have to manually restart the pc which obviously is not too desirable.
Basically, my pc won't run direct draw - altho the diagnostic test for it seems to be ok, and I can't hit the settings tab in display properties. HELP!

Hi,

What version of the Nvidia drivers did you use?

The latest are Version: 41.09
http://www.nvidia.com/view.asp?IO=win9x_41.09

What version of DirectX are you running?

If you already installed DirectX 9 and are having problems with it, uninstall it and re-install DirectX 8.

I phoned the EA help line and did what they told me!

I'm still having the same problem with the control panel, display, settings tab tho... I have downloaded the latest correct drivers for my Nvidia card and I'm running directx 8.1... any ideas?
