Operating System Version:win xp rpo sp 1
Problem Application Name & Version:outlook express
Problem Hardware Make & Model:
Error Messages:

thought i was being cool archiving outlook express 6 emails
the folders and files now carry *.dbx names and i cannot open them
keeps defaulting to adobe acrobat reader whic then says it cannot open the files
tried ms help - no help
guess i'll go to the forum for help to open

Hello trwwci .. Smiley

The trick to opening a previously deleted file or importing a dbx file is to firstly make sure that the file is not in Outlook Express, for example:in another folder somewhere else or on a CD.

Next is open Outlook Express and create a new folder. The name of the folder must be the same as the one you are trying to recover except for the dbx suffix of course. Now you can but the recovered dbx file in the same folder as your inbox, sent items etc. The path varies depending on what operating system you are using.

Now go back to Outlook Express and open the new folder and with any luck you will see your recovered messages.
