PLEASE SUPPLY RELEVANT INFORMATION:
Operating System Version: xp
Problem Application Name & Version:?
Problem Hardware Make & Model:HP
Error Messages: trojan-spy.html.smitfruad.c and microsoft windows security warning error # 317

I do not know hardly anything about computers, so if anyone helps me (and I hope someone does Grin) please use laymans terms.
I started w/ the blue screen w/ the trojan message, but I was getting no viruses in my scans. SO I found an online "fix" that said to go into the redegit or something like that and change to something to 0.  I did that and the blue screen is gone, but I have no icons and no music plays on startup.  Then I started getting the popups w/ error # 317. Still there are no virus scans picking up anything and no spyware (there was a dialer, but I deleted it and there is still the problem). Also, there is a red button w/ a white x in my system tray that keeps popping up saying i have a virus and there are dangerous popups on my system.  I cannot ge that darn thing to delete.  This is my moms comp and I told her I could fix it, and now I am not so sure.  Please help me someone!!
Here is my hijack this thing:

Hi there:

Well, welcome to the world of Windows non-existent security. That's why so many of us techies switch to Linux.

Anyways, sounds like you may be infected. When you say that you scanned for viruses, what program and version did you use?

Contrary to popular belief, many programs miss a lot of viruses. That's why the best thing to do is install the best virus protection you can afford, and go to some of the online virus scanning websites to scan using other software on an intermittent basis.

While I could step you through all sorts of steps, it would take a very long time.  Instead, I'll suggest something easier. Have you tried using XP's System Restore feature to go back to an earlier system restore point? Do you know what that is/how that works?

Thanks for responding so quickly!
This computer was running for months w/out and virus protection.  I downloaded norton antivirus 2005 and ran that. All it says(as of the last scan this morning) that there is a dialer in C:\windows\system32\edgaccess and it cannot delete it. I have gone online and done other cans and they come up clean.
I tried to do system restore, but the only times that are available are from the 6th of may forward.  That will not help because the virus messages started on the 5th.
This poor computer was in the hands of people who have no idea what they are doing and have a hard time just getting online.  It is a miracle that it lasted so long with them.
If you can give me directions to delete this ting manually, I can try my best.  Or do you think that I should take it someone who knows more than me and let thm give it a try?

Hi and Welcome
It may help you if you print out or copy this page for easy reference.. Make sure to work through the fixes in the exact order its listed. Please Keep your browser and all open programs closed (except firewalls and antivirus) when you are carrying out the fixes
.These instructions are for HJT v1.99.1 only

Download any of the required programs before attempting to start any of the fixes.

Please do NOT run Hijack This  in a TEMPorary folder or on the Desktop. I recommend c:/program files/HJT/

Turn off System Restore instructions (WinXP)
Rightclick My Computer | Properties | System Restore | check

Ok. I did everything on the list.  It wasn't too hard.  When I fixed the files in hijack this in safemode only 4 of the files were listed. Some were similar, but not exactly, so I left them unchecked.  But now I am there is another problem. After going back into normal mode I got a new error message (along with the other ones)  It said, "Error loading EDGACESS_1058.dll The specified module could not be found."  Is that a problem?
Here is me new log thing:

Press CTRL-ALT-DEL and bring the Task Manager. Go to Processes and look for a file running named BSE.exe or BE.exe and stop the process. Then delete the below files if present from Explorer.

C:\WINDOWS\system32\BSE.exe
C:\WINDOWS\system32\param32.dll

Then run HJT and see if you can fix this...

Just what problems are you having now ? Maybe download SILENT RUNNERS  to a new folder,... Unzip if Zipped, and run the Silent Runners.vbs file.
Open the "Startup Programs.txt" file it creates, and copy/paste the contents to this post, please.
The "Startup Programs.txt" file will be in the folder you ran the "Silent Runners.vbs" file from.

I am still have all the previous stated error/virus repotrs. But, when I am in safe mode the desktop wallpaper is visible and I can access all the desktop icons, although they are p*rn, gambling, and drug websites and when I delete them they come back.
Here is my silent runner thing.

I cannot find the edgaccess file.  I did find the param32.dll and when I tried to delete it I got an error that said cannot delete param32: access is denied.  Make sure the disk is not full or write protected and that the file is not in use.

Thats strange as that  file should delete without any problem...

Download rkfiles

Unzip the files to a folder of its own.
It needs to be run in safe mode for it to work correctly.
REBOOT INTO SAFE MODE...--> How to reboot to Safe Mode -->(reboot and tap F8 immediately after BIOS screen ( the Bios screen is the first black and white screen you see)....choose Safe Mode from menu)

Reboot into safe mode......Open the folder and run the RKFILES.BAT
It will take 10 minutes or so.....when the the text opens, with the results, save and copy the log. The output will be displayed and saved in c:\log.txt.

Run HijackThis in Safe mode and make a new HT log, too please.

Reboot computer back to a normal mode and post the C:\Log.txt please and the hijackthis log made in safe mode.
