OS XP Pro SP2, Hard Drive is Seagate 40G 7200
Hi, can someone tell me how to enable SMART on my hard drive. It is SMART capable according to Belarco but in the boot up details it is disabled, thanks.....sam stuart

You set it in the BIOS of your motherboard.

Hi Jee, thanks for answering. I have looked in the BIOS but can not find it. My MB is a Lex BN790E, any suggestions?...Sam Stuart

I looked for a manual of your motherboard on the internet but couldn't find one, not even on the Lex homepage. But my girlfriend came to the rescue, as she has a similar motherboard to yours, same chipset, same Award BIOS. This BIOS doesn't have the S.M.A.R.T. feature.

Not that it matters much, since all it does is probably tell you upon a boot up that your harddrive is in problems. I have had 3 HDDs crash on me without a warning from the BIOS, all were SMART capable and all had it on. I then gave up on setting the option on, it's useless.
