PLEASE SUPPLY RELEVANT INFORMATION:
Operating System Version:Windows 98
Problem Application Name & Version:Device Manager not reading cd roms
Problem Hardware Make & Model:Samsung dvd and Cyber drive cdrw
Error Messages:

Windows will not recoginse my cdrw & dvd roms. "My computer" shows that there are drives d and e,(cdrw and dvd) but when I open device manager it does not show that any cd roms are available on the computer. I have tried disconecting both the drives and rebooting, also reloading windows but still windows refuses to recognise that there is any cd roms in the system despite them appearing in "my computer". I can use the cd roms to load software, games ect, but if I need to burn a cd on the cdrw Nero software tells me that there is no cd rom present --------------- is this due to device manager not recognising any cd rom drives?Undecidedsm.ellabby@blueyonder.co.uk

Have a look here...

http://www.nero.com/en/index.html#c1023694368810

If no good then...

goto www.adaptec.com and run a search for aspi32.exe download and install, if that fails then try Force Aspi from: http://www.cyrus.troy.btinternet.co.uk/downloads.htm
The aspi layer comsists of the following files:
ASPIENUM.VXD
wINASPI.DLL
WNASPI32.DLL
APIX.VXD

Run a search for the files and check their version, they should be: v4.60 (1021).

Berty

PS: sounds like you are using a bundled Nero that is not compatable with your burner.....?

Thanks for the info. Recieved a reply suggesting that I remove the ide controller in device manager and reboot. Alas no success.
Then I resorted to option 6 on the recovery disc and reformatted as a last attempt.
I know it's a lot of messing but it sorted all my problems out.

Thanks for all your advise.
Bye for now.
