PLEASE SUPPLY RELEVANT INFORMATION:
Operating System Version: Windows XP Home SP1
Problem Application Name & Version: smitfraud.c
Problem Hardware Make & Model:
Error Messages:

Hi, I have a system hit by the smitfraud trojan and can't get things back right again. Start-Programs (shows-EMPTY)  Can't open Control Panel from Start-Settings. CAN boot to safe mode, CAN use Windows Explorer, Can use Regedit. Got Display options up and viewing, but wallpaper won't change. Also the BlueScreen that smitfraud created is now gone.
Disabled SystemRestore
View all HiddenFolders and SystemFolders
Quit most of the system processes i.e. SMSSU.exe, TMNTSRV32.exe, IEND.exe
Ran AdAware and removed a lot of registry entries then rebooted.
Ran Spybot S&D but only found DSO Exploit, fixed.
System won't install AVG by Grisoft.
CWS Shredder found nothing.
Norton Anti-Virus won't run.
All windows were closed when above was being performed.
Can someone please help me get my system back up and running clean again. Below is my HijackThis log:

Download Attachment: hijackthistxt.txt 7.1 KB
Right click and select Save Target As... then rename the file as shown here and save.

NOT SURE IF THE UPLOAD ATTACHMENT WORKED, SO POSTED IT HERE:

Hello budE .. Smiley

Set Windows to show Hidden files and folders

* Select the View Tab.
* Under the Hidden files and folders heading select Show hidden files and folders.
* Uncheck the Hide protected operating system files (recommended) option.

**(Always create a Folder for HiJackThis anywhere but your Temp/Temporary Internet Folders. This is where it will save the backup files needed if there's a problem.)**

Goto START>RUN
Type or Copy/Paste these lines below into the Run Box 1 at a time Pressing OK after each:

regsvr32 /u ipee32.dll
regsvr32 /u xmllib.dll

**NOTE** IF YOU GET AN ERROR MESSAGE DOING THE ABOVE PLEASE DO NOT WORRY-CONTINUE WITH THE FIX TO THE END NOT WORRYING ABOUT WHAT IS NOT THERE BUT RATHER ABOUT WHAT IS .. Wink

Press Ctrl/Alt/Del and "End Task" or "End Process" on each of the following: (They may or may not be there)

NOTHING WAS IN TEMPORARY INTERNET FILES FOLDERS.
Now, empty all your TEMP Folders (WinXp has up to 4 of them) / Temporary Internet Files Folder and then empty your "Recycle Bin" and Reboot.

In Xp, here are some locations of Temp files

C:\Documents and Settings\Administrator\Local Settings\Temporary Internet Files
C:\Documents and Settings\Username\Local Settings\Temporary Internet Files
C:\Documents and Settings\Default User\Local Settings\Temporary Internet Files
C:\Documents and Settings\LocalService\Local Settings\Temporary Internet Files
C:\Documents and Settings\NetworkService\Local Settings\Temporary Internet Files

DONE
Turn on System Restore

Still can't bring up Control Panel this way.
Can't do Start-Programs---because it says it's EMPTY.
Before opening your browser goto START>CONTROL PANEL>INTERNET OPTIONS and make sure your Homepage is correct,if not ,type the URL you would like in the HomePage box.

INSTALLED BUT DIDN'T RUN
 Download CCLEANER
http://www.ccleaner.com/

Now re-run HJT and post a new logfile back here.

Ok budE .. almost done .. Smiley

Set Windows to show Hidden files and folders
* Click Start.
* Open My Computer.
* Select the Tools menu and click Folder Options.
* Select the View Tab.
* Under the Hidden files and folders heading select Show hidden files and folders.
* Uncheck the Hide protected operating system files (recommended) option.
* Click Yes to confirm.
* Click OK.

I need you to DISABLE SpyBot's TeaTimer...
 In Spybot>>MODE>>ADVANCED MODE>>TOOLS>>SYSTEM STARTUP

Uncheck
C:\Program Files\Spybot - Search & Destroy\TeaTimer.exe

Now ...

Press Ctrl/Alt/Del and "End Task" or "End Process" on each of the following: (They may or may not be there)

Omniserv.exe

Turn off System Restore WinXP WinME. (Turn it back on after this is repaired and you've rebooted.) Close all other open Windows and have HiJackThis Fix:

R0 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Start Page =

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [p] C:\WINDOWS\p

O20 - Winlogon Notify: OPXPGina - C:\Program Files\Softex\OmniPass\opxpgina.dll

O23 - Service: Softex OmniPass Service (omniserv) - Unknown owner - C:\Program Files\Softex\OmniPass\Omniserv.exe

Go to Control Panel / Add/Remove Programs and remove the
 following if they are there:

Softex(OmniPass)

Now delete these Folders or Files that are Highlighted: (You may need enable "Show all Files" and disable "Hide System Files" in Windows Explorer / Tools / Folder Options / View Tab) (You may have to boot to "Safe Mode" in order to delete some Files/Folders)

C:\WINDOWS\p
C:\Program Files\Softex\OmniPass\opxpgina.dll

Now, empty all your TEMP Folders (WinXp has up to 4 of them) / Temporary Internet Files Folder and then empty your "Recycle Bin" and Reboot.

In Xp, here are some locations of Temp files

C:\Documents and Settings\Administrator\Local Settings\Temporary Internet Files
C:\Documents and Settings\Username\Local Settings\Temporary Internet Files
C:\Documents and Settings\Default User\Local Settings\Temporary Internet Files
C:\Documents and Settings\LocalService\Local Settings\Temporary Internet Files
C:\Documents and Settings\NetworkService\Local Settings\Temporary Internet Files

Turn on System Restore

Before opening your browser goto START>CONTROL PANEL>INTERNET OPTIONS and make sure your Homepage is correct,if not ,type the URL you would like in the HomePage box.

Now PLEASE run CCLEANER .. Wink

Now re-run HJT and post a new logfile back here.
