PLEASE SUPPLY RELEVANT INFORMATION:
Operating System Version: Windows XP Pro
Problem Application Name & Version: TCP/IP Stack
Problem Hardware Make & Model: Citicom Computer
Error Messages: Can't get an IP address from DHCP server after infection.

Hi guys, I have been at this for 2 days now.  I disinfected this system from the smitfraud infection.  Once I had removed the smitfraud, I was unable to get online still.  Seems my IP address doesn't want to take.  I have even tried a manual configuration of my TCP/IP settings and nothing.  When I do a ipconfig /renew it gives me an error that says an opperation was attempted on something that is not a socket.  PLEASE HELP!  Smiley

Try this...

Install TCP/IP on top of itself. To do this, follow these steps:
In Control Panel, double-click Network Connections, right-click Local Area Connection, and then click Properties.
Click Install.
Click Protocol, and then click Add.
Click Have Disk.
In the Copy manufacturer's files from box, type System_Drive_Letter:\windows\inf, and then click OK.
In the list of available protocols, click Internet Protocol (TCP/IP), and then click OK.

Restart your computer.

I'll give it a try on monday and see if it works.  I'm away for the weekend.  I'll keep you posted.

Download WinsockFix and unzip it. Then double-click on it to run it.

That seems to have done it.  It was an issue with the registry.  Something to do with winsock2.  Anywho, a similar utility helped me, shortly before you posted this, but I believe it is probably the same type of utility.  Thanks again!
