Hello, I am having problems with the following:

On Thursday night, my computer worked fine.  I did not install any programs before I turned it off.  On Friday morning, I get the error noted above whenever I try to open up Internet Explorer.

I've run Computer Associates eTrust Pest Patrol Anti-spyware Corporate Edition, Spybot S&D, cleaned out my temp files and rebooted several times to no avail.  Thank you so much if you are able to help me.

Here is the logfile of HijackThis v1.99.1:

I dont see anything malicous in your log.
Go into Add/Remove Programs, click on Microsoft Internet Explorer SP1 and Internet Tools, highlight it and click Add/Remove button. In the next box place a checkmark beside Repair

I don't see IE SP1 in Add/Remove Programs.  Maybe that's because those service packs and hotfixes that are installed using the auto update feature do not show up there.  But I do know that IE SP 1 is installed.

Its also possible 2000 is different than 98/ME Embarrassed

You can try Run the System File Checker (Not sure if 2000 works with this)

Go to the Run box on the Start Menu and type in:

sfc /scannow   ( sfc if not reconized)

This command will immediately initiate the Windows File Protection service to scan all protected files and verify their integrity, replacing any files with which it finds a problem. You will need your Windows cd.

Try going to Control Panel/Add-Remove programs and see if you have the Google Toolbar installed; if so, remove it. That solved the same problem on a Win XP computer.

Thank you!!  Your suggestion worked like a charm.  I now have IE back even though I've kind of become used to Mozilla now. I beat my head against the wall trying to figure this one out and I really appreciate the help.
