i have broadband internet which i would like to share on my laptop. im not really sure how to do this. is it really easy to do, i hear you just have to get a router and whether its wireless or cable-connected, the laptop should recognize the connection right away and ill be able to connect to the internet. is this true? i tried just sticking the ethernet cable from the cable modem (the one that is connected to my desktop) to the laptop (direct connection)and that didnt work. it connects, but i cant do anything, internet doesnt work. anyway, any help would be greatly appreciated.Grin

Im assuming you already have the LAN connection in the back of the laptop from what you stated.
go to Control Panel>Interet Options>Connections
Click the LAN settings and click Automatically Detect Settings
