I've just spent 4 days on this one; none of the standard tools was very helpful.  Look for a non-standard .DLL file posing as a system file.  In my case it was DHD9.DLL.  I couldn't delete it and it was invisible to DOS on a command prompt; it remained active even in Safe Mode.  I instructed HijackThis to delete DHD9 on reboot; it reinstalled itself.  I finally uprooted the thing with a utility called KillBox by Option^Explicit Software Solutions. (http://www.spywareinfo.com/~merijn/files/kill2me.zip) It was necessary to select "unregister the file before deleting" on reboot. I then did a search and deleted any files that called upon that dll, including MSI.DLL, part of the Microsoft installer package.  Microsoft's website, BTW, shows no results for a search for DHD9.DLL, nor did a Google search.  Good luck. -Jace

Hello Mn3MoN1C

You have worms.....Tongue

Please print out or copy this page to Notepad. Make sure to work through the fixes in the exact order it is mentioned below. If there's anything that you don't understand, ask your question(s) before proceeding with the fixes. You should not have any open browsers when you are following the procedures below.

You have placed HJT on your Desktop. Please move to a proper location before doing the fix.
(Always create a Folder for HiJackThis anywhere but your Temp/Temporary Internet Folders or Desktop. A good place to make a folder would be in My Documents, as this is where it will save the backup files needed if there's a problem.)

Download / Install / Update / and Run:
Adaware SE check for any updates before running it.
Get the plug-in for fixing VX2 variants. You can download it at this SITE
To run this tool, install to the hard drive, then open Ad-aware->Add-ons and select VX2 Cleaner. Then click Run Tool and OK to start it. If it's clean, it will say Status System Clean. Otherwise, you will have to click on the Clean button to remove the VX2 infection.

Download and install Spybot S&D . Run Spybot and click on the 'Search for Updates' button. Install any updates that are available. Next click on the 'Check for Problems' button. Let it run the scan. If it finds something, check all those in RED and hit the Fix Selected Problems button. Exit Spybot. If you keep getting the DSO Exploit entries, even after you updated Windows and fixed them, then download the Spybot DSO Exploit Fix and install it over the current Spybot installation.

Scan your pc with one of these free online scanners:
Panda ActiveScan
RAV AntiVirus
Housecall.  Be sure to put a check the box beside AutoClean.

The Temp folders should be cleaned out periodically as installation programs and hijack programs leave a lot of junk there.  Download CleanUp! (Alternate Link if main link don't work) and install it. You will use this later.

Go to My Computer >Tools >Folder Options >View tab and make sure that Show hidden files and folders is enabled. Also make sure that the System Files and Folders are showing / visible. Uncheck the Hide protected operating system files option.

Reboot your system in Safe Mode (By repeatedly tapping the F8 key until the menu appears).

Open Hijack This and click on Scan. Check the following entries (make sure you do not miss any)

O4 - HKLM\..\RunServices: [starter] scvhostingg.exe
O4 - HKLM\..\RunServices: [Windows32 Messenger Service] msmsgv.exe
O4 - HKLM\..\RunServices: [ntfsmonitorpro] ntfs64.exe
O4 - HKLM\..\RunServices: [] WinGmt.exe
O4 - HKCU\..\RunServices: [] WinGmt.exe
O4 - Global Startup: Logitech Desktop Messenger.lnk = ?
O20 - Winlogon Notify: App Paths - C:\WINDOWS\system32\AZHPRXY.DLL
O23 - Service: CWShredder Service - Unknown owner - C:\Documents and Settings\Enforcer\Desktop\cwshredder.exe (file missing)

Please remember to close all other windows, including browsers then click Fix checked.

Delete the following Files indicated in RED and Folders indicated in BLUE if they still exist.

 C:\WINDOWS\system32\AZHPRXY.DLL

Locate and delete these files
scvhostingg.exe
msmsgv.exe
ntfs64.exe
WinGmt.exe

Open Cleanup! by double-clicking the icon on your desktop (or from the Start > All Programs menu). Set the program up as follows:

*Click "Options..."
*Move the arrow down to "Custom CleanUp!"
*Put a check next to the following:
Empty Recycle Bins
Delete Cookies
Delete Prefetch files
[X]Scan local drives for temporary files (Please uncheck this option)
Cleanup! All Users
Click OK
Press the CleanUp! button to start the program. Reboot/logoff when prompted.

Empty your Recycle Bin.

Reboot your System in normal mode.

Please post a fresh Hijack This log so that we can check if your system is clean.

I tried to delete the C:\WINDOWS\system32\AZHPRXY.DLL file but it wouldn't let me. I tried to delete it using KillBox but it still shows up. Also when I searched for those files
scvhostingg.exe
msmsgv.exe
ntfs64.exe
WinGmt.exe

They didn't show up. However, I did everything else. I keep getting this alarm from my Ewido Security Suite that this file guard.tmp is part of this Look2Me spyware. I'm not sure what I should do because I had deleted the file once before but I guess it didn't work. Thanks for your help.

Download L2mfix
Save the file to your desktop and double click l2mfix.exe. Click the Install button to extract the files and follow the prompts, then open the newly added l2mfix folder on your desktop. Double click l2mfix.bat and select option #1 for Run Find Log by typing 1 and then pressing enter. This scan takes time to complete, then notepad will open with a log. Copy the contents of that log and paste it here

Please Do NOT run option #2 OR any other files in the l2mfix folder until told to.

You have 2 antivirus programs installed, reguardless of the location of those programs, you may be bringing your system down to a crawl and possibly interferring with the attempts to resolve your issue.
Un-install 1 of them, preferrably Norton. BUT if you have a valid subscription to one please keep it. No use removing something your paying for Embarrassed

Then run L2Mfix from Safe Mode, also run option #2 You have a confirmed L2M infection.

We will address your theme issue after when we remove the infection

On the topic of the windows theme, I was able to fix that by downloading a new template of the default XP theme.

Close all open programs

From the l2mfix folder on your desktop, double click l2mfix.bat and select option #2 for Run Fix by typing 2 and then press enter, then press any key to reboot your computer. After a reboot, your desktop and icons will appear, then disappear (this is normal). L2mfix will continue to scan your computer and when it's finished, notepad will open with a log. Copy the contents of that log and paste it here, along with a new HJT log.

Please Do NOT run any other files in the l2mfix folder until you are told to

From the L2MFix folder, double-click L2mfix.bat
Select option #4 - Merge Winlogon Notify Defaults - by typing 4
Type E to exit the program.

You may delete the L2MFix folder after that.
