PLEASE SUPPLY RELEVANT INFORMATION:
Operating System Version: Windows 98SE
Problem Application Name & Version: Upgrade
Problem Hardware Make & Model: IBM Aptiva 2170
Error Messages:

Does anyone know if I can install Windows 2000 Professional or Windows XP on an IBM Aptiva 2170-803 computer?  It came with a special Recovery Disk with Windows 98SE on it in zip files.  Microsoft doesn't list the 2170 machine as compatable with Windows 2000 Professional or Windows XP.  IBM doesn't list their Aptiva 2170 for any kind of support.

I think IBM embedded their Recovery Disk into the system BIOS so that no other OS can be loaded on the hard drive unless it is through the Recovery Disk software.  By the same token, the Recovery Disk for the Aptiva 2170 can't be used with any other BIOS configuration than the one one on the Aptiva.
