You have just posted 2 contradictory statements....

1)The screensavers will not come on
2)all settings for them are correct

There must be an error somewhere - or they'd work!!

What screensaver have you tried?
What is your hardware??
Do you get any error messages???

by settings correct,I meant I made all the proper selections to activate the screensavers as I have done many times on my own computer, the ones in question are the ones included "with" windows 98,,none from any other source, just the windows ones.

....and???
Please answer questions - they are there for a reason!

"What screensaver have you tried?
What is your hardware??
Do you get any error messages???"

Also - have you tried uninstalling and reinstalling the screensavers from Add/Remove Programs | Windows Setup??

had you of read my post correctly,,you would see where "the screensavers" in question are mentioned "they are the ones that COMES WITH windows 98 and selectable from "display/screensavers"
Its a new hard drive and windows 98 2ed was just installed fresh,no other programs installed, video card works fine,,sound card works fine etc etc etc.

....and?Huh??
READ the questions, and answer what's written, please - otherwise no-one can help!!
"have you tried uninstalling and reinstalling the screensavers from Add/Remove Programs | Windows Setup??"

FYI, I did read your initial response fully - which is more that you seem to have had the courtesy to do with mine - and nowhere did it mention hardware, which exact screensaver you had tried, or whether you ancountered any error messages (and more impoortantly the EXACT wording of any such message).

Have you updated the OS yet, from Windows Updates??

You still haven't answered two out of those three questions

Right click on an empty part of your Desktop and click Properties.
Click the Settings tab, check the Colors (16 bits)(256)(Hi Color 16 Bit)(True Color 32 Bit) What is yours set at? Also what is your screen areaa set to?

I gave up on the windows supplied screensavers and copied a screensaver that I got at a web site,It doesnt come on as it should (the preset wait time with no activity) but if I click preview and dont move mouse or keyboard keys,it stays on indefinitly.Thats all I need as it works for my grandson who likes one on at bedtime.
Thanks all.
