PLEASE SUPPLY RELEVANT INFORMATION:
Operating System Version:      Win/Xp-Pro SP2
Problem Application Name & Version:   Safe Mode
Problem Hardware Make & Model:
Error Messages:

It is VERY SELDOM that I need to use the Safe Mode on my Win/XP-Pro+SP2 system, but whenever I do, then it takes a VERY LOOOOOOOOOOOOOONG time (approaching 6 minutes) for it to become ready to use.

During this period there is NO discernable activity on the system.
A set of messages has rolled off the monitor and stopped with the last 24 still showing; they are somewhat of the form ...
    MULTI(0)DISK(0)RDISK(0)PARTITION(1)WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\DRIVERS\asdfghjk.sys
the last one is always ...
    MULTI(0)DISK(0)RDISK(0)PARTITION(1)WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\DRIVERS\AGP440.SYS
but the display never changes during this long wait period.
Have never heard/read any discussion about this, so it makes me think that maybe there is something unique about my system.

Q. Is this a normal occurrence when using Safe Mode?
Q. What's going on during this period? Is there any way to shorten it?

Thanks,,

Safe mode does take longer, I have never really timed it, but it seems like about 3 minutes.  What it is doing, is scanning all of the startup stuff and refusing to let it run.

You may have a lot of stuff running that you don't know about.  Two anti virus programs running at the same time could cause this sort of slowdown  You only need one.
