My computer has a yellow information box coming from three x's in red circles on the taskbar.  The box states "Your computer is infected!  Windows has detected spyware infection!  It is recommended to use special antispyware tools to prevent data loss.  Windows will now download and install the most up-to-date antispyware for you. Click here to protect your computer from spyware!"  Nothing happens when you click on either the x's or the information bubble.  There is also a black rectangle with red and white letters on my desktop stating basically the same thing as the informationbox.  I cannot change my desktop to remove it.  Every so often, spysheriff tries to download and run.  I have run cw shredder, trendmicro, ad-aware and spybot but I can't get rid of whaatever this is.  I ran hijack this and here is the log.

Hello and Welcome to MyTechSupport.ca

Please print out or copy this page to Notepad. Make sure to work through the fixes in the exact order it is mentioned below. If there's anything that you don't understand, ask your question(s) before proceeding with the fixes. You should not have any open browsers when you are following the HJT procedures below.

Download SmitRem.zip and save the file to your desktop.
Right click on the file and extract it to it's own folder on the desktop.

Place a shortcut to Panda ActiveScan on your desktop.

Please download the trial version of  Ewido Security Suite

Please read Ewido Setup Instructions
Install it, and update the definitions to the newest files. Do NOT run a scan yet.

If you have not already installed Ad-Aware SE 1.06, follow these download and setup instructions, otherwise, check for updates:
Ad-Aware SE Setup
Don't run it yet!

Next, please reboot your computer in SafeMode (By repeatedly tapping the F8 key until the menu appears).

Open the smitRem folder, then double click the RunThis.bat file to start the tool. Follow the prompts on screen.
Wait for the tool to complete and disk cleanup to finish.

The tool will create a log named smitfiles.txt in the root of your drive, eg; Local Disk C: or partition where your operating system is installed. Please post that log along with all others requested in your next reply

Open Ad-aware SE and do a full scan. Remove all it finds.

Run Ewido Security Suite:

    • Click [Scanner]
    • Click [Complete System Scan] to begin scanning.
    • Click [OK] when prompted to clean files
    • With the first file it prompts to clean, select the option -  "Perform action on all infections" - & choose clean and click [OK].
    • Once finished, click the [Save report] button
    • Save the report to your desktop
Close Ewido

Next go to Control Panel click Display > Desktop > Customize Desktop > Website > Uncheck "Security Info" if present.

Reboot back into Windows and click the Panda ActiveScan shortcut, then do a full system scan. Make sure the autoclean box is checked!
Save the scan log and post it along with a new HijackThis Log and the Ewido Log by using Add Reply.

Download DelDomains.inf

To use: Close all open browsers
Right-click DelDomains.inf and select: Install

This should remove those 015 entries.
Deletes all entries in the Restricted & Trusted Zone list.

The Temp folders should be cleaned out periodically as installation programs and hijack programs leave a lot of junk there.  Download CleanUp! (Alternate Link if main link don't work) and install it. You will use this later.

Go to My Computer >Tools >Folder Options >View tab and make sure that Show hidden files and folders is enabled. Also make sure that the System Files and Folders are showing / visible. Uncheck the Hide protected operating system files option.

For the options that you checked/enabled earlier, you may uncheck them after your log is clean. If we ask you to fix a program that you use or want to keep, please post back saying that (we don't know every program that exists, so we may tell you to delete a program that we think is bad to keep).

Reboot your system in Safe Mode (By repeatedly tapping the F8 key until the menu appears).

Open Hijack This and click on Scan. Check the following entries (make sure you do not miss any)

R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer,SearchURL = http://searchmiracle.com/sp.php

Your log is now clean. Are there any problems now? If not, you should be set to go.

It would probably be a good idea to set a "new" system restore point.

Follow these instructions:

Turn off System Restore by doing the following:

Click Start > Right Click My Computer > Properties. Click the System Restore tab and Check "Turn off System Restore" or "Turn off System Restore on all drives". Click Apply. When turning off System Restore, the existing restore points will be deleted. Click Yes to do this then Click OK. Then you can go head and Enable again.

To help prevent future spyware installations/infections, please read the Anti-Spyware Tutorial Anti-Spyware Tutorial and use the tools provided.
